Ripon College tops Northland in afternoon action

LumberJills fall in Ripon, Wis.

RIPON, Wis. - The Northland College Women's Soccer team was stopped by Ripon College 0-5 Saturday afternoon in Ripon, Wis. The RedHawks started fast scoring in the first 10 minutes and never looked back.

In the first minute of play, Ripon had its first chance and it didn't take long until they found the back of the net in the ninth minute. In the 22nd minute, the LumberJills had their first crack at goal with a shot by Tiffany Tinsley.At half Northland found itself down 0-4.

Northland held Ripon to five fewer shots in the second half and only one goal. The Jills had a chance to get on the board with a penalty kick in the 78th but a save from Shelby Pacholke kept NC off the score sheet. 
The Jills rolled out with the same starting 11 as its first game of the season. In the first half, Northland had their best opportunities with four shots, three on frame. Reece Gellerman recorded a shot in the action, adding to her total, and leads the Jills in attempts this season. In goal, Elysabeth Lough saved six RedHawks' shots, three in each half.

The Jills host the Maranatha Baptist University for their home opener on Friday, Sept. 8th, at 4 p.m., at Ponzio Stadium.
