Tibbetts nets five in Jacks 6-0 victory

Northland improves to 2-0 in UMAC play

ASHLAND, Wis.– The Northland College Men's Soccer team improved to 2-0 in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play with a 6-0 win over Martin Luther College Saturday evening in Ashland, Wis. Sophomore Harrison Tibbetts scored an impressive five goals to help lift the Jacks over the Knights.
 
It did not take long for the scoring to start in Ashland. In the sixth minute, Tibbetts scores the first goal of the game assisted by Sorel Richardson. The Jacks continued to test Martin Luther's keeper with shot after shot but it wasn't until the 37th minute Tibbetts found the back of the net again. Just like the first goal Richardson helped set him up. Entering half Northland outshot Martin Luther 17-2 with seven shots being on frame.
 
The second half had barely started before Tibbetts sent another past the goalkeeper. This time getting assisted by Julian Swensen. Tibbetts was not done yet finding the back of the net two more times in the 53rd and 54th minutes. The whole game the Northland midfield was sending balls through with Tibbetts out running the Knight's defense to find himself only with the keeper to beat and more time that not added on to the Jacks' total. Tibbetts wasn't the only one who found the back of the net, in the 73rd minute freshman Anthony Morales scored his first collegiate goal.
 
Not only leading the team in goal Tibbets paced the Jacks with 11 shots, seven on frame in his 61 minutes of play. Thomas Carey also tested the keeper with two shots. Juan Solivellas, Morales and Garrett Sutton sent shots the keeper's way to be apart of Northland's 12 shots on goal. All of Tibbetts's goals were assisted with two from Richardson, and one from Swensen, Quinn Bieber and Nolan Melek.
 
In goal, Jamie Colvill saw three shots his way stopping all of them. For the second game in a row, Colvill keeps a clean sheet and picks up the win. The Jacks are the only ones to have not suffered a goal in conference play.
 
The Jacks will be back at Ponzio Stadium as they host North Central University on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
