ASHLAND, Wis. – The Northland College Men's Soccer team fought back after tailing 2-0 in the first half to Hamline University but fell just shy of completing the comeback, losing 2-3 Sunday afternoon in Ashland, Wis. Goalkeeper
Jamie Colvill leveled the game at 2-2 after scoring from a free kick from midfield.
Starting the game Northland had strong possession making good passes, keeping the ball away from the Pipers for the first few minutes. Hamline then picked up the pressure and started to test the Jacks' goalie. Jared Garcia started the scoring when he found the net after a ball was deflected from a previous shot. A minute and a half later Garcia added another one for the Pipers. For the rest of the half, Northland hunkered down to slow the Hamline offense.
In the second half, the Jacks spend more time with the ball to set up opportunities. They would bring the ball down the right-hand side and cross it in the box. Northland's first goal came in the 73
rd minute when sophomore
Quinn Bieber crossed the ball to
Sorel Richardson who found the back of the net. Five minutes later, keeper Colvill took a free kick from half that found its way into the net to level the game. The
Kelan Cattaway put another past the keeper but was called back for a high kick. From that free kick, the Pipers stormed down the field to score the winning goal of the game.
The Jacks make use of their few shots in the game, of their 10 shots, three were on goal and two ended up in the back of the net.
Harrison Tibbetts,
Thomas Carey and Sorel got two shots off in the match with Carey blasting one from the midfield line. In goal, Colvill had a great outing with seven saves and the game-leveling goal.
The Jacks have a short turnaround with an away game tomorrow (Monday) when they travel to Eau Claire, Wis., to take on the University of Wisconsin, Eua Claire.
