PLYMOUTH, Wis. - The Northland College Women's Soccer team were defeated in its first game of the 2023 season to Lakeland University 0-5, in Plymouth, Wis., at Taylor Field Friday afternoon. Forward Reece Gellerman led the LumberJills on the attack with two shots, one being on frame.
The Northland defense held strong, not allowing Lakeland to get a shot off until the 24th minute. The Muskies found their footing later on and outshot the Jills 17-5. LU pulled ahead in the 34th minute after an own goal ended up in the back of the net for Northland. Right before the half the Muskies doubled their lead with a goal from Taytum Theoboald. In the second half Lakeland picked up where it left off and netted three more goals for a decisive 5-0 victory.Â
Of the five shots for the Jills, Gellerman recorded two of them in a span of 30 seconds in the 55th minute of play. Greta Keffer and Tiffany Tinsley both tested the Lakeland keeper with second half shots. In goal for Northland junior Elysabeth Lough stopped five Muskies' attempts.Â
The Jills continue with non conference action tomorrow (Saturday) as they travel to Ripon, Wis., to take on Ripon College at 2 p.m. Â
