Women’s Basketball ends calendar year with Saints and Blue Angels

Northland at home for the last time until 2024

ASHLAND, Wis. – The Northland College Women's Basketball team wraps up the 2023 calendar year by hosting the College of Saint Scholastica at 6 p.m., on Tuesday then on the road at Mount Mary University on Friday at 6 p.m.

The Saints are 3-4 overall and 2-3 in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Last week CSS had two midweek games falling 40-59 to Gustavus Adolphus College on Monday, then won 63-58 on the road at Saint Mary's University. The Saints are led by sophomore Lexi Imdieke who leads the team with 88 points on the season with a time-high 16 made three-pointers. On the defensive side of the ball, freshman Kloey Lind has 47 boards, averaging 6.7 per game.
 
After starting 3-1 the Blue Angels have fallen to 4-6 overall. MMU snapped a four-game losing streak after defeating Andrews University on Dec. 3, 81-34 then falling to Marian University on Thursday. Vanessa Diaz leads the team averaging 15.9 points per game, with a team-high field goal percentage of 76.9. Joselyn Gonzales paces the team with 7.3 rebounds per game.
 
Last week the LumberJills started Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play. The University of Minnesota, Morris pulled away from Northland on Friday. When the Jills hosted Crown College it was a much closer game. For the first time this season, Northland held a lead in the first quarter and trailed by two entering the second quarter. The Jills were unfortunately unable to come away with the win.
 
Junior Katelyn Altaha leads Northland with 46 points. In the game against the Polars she had a season high 14 in the loss. After behind held off the score board to start the season senior Madi Owens put up double-figures in both game last week, scoring 14 against the Cougars. The duo in Altaha and Owens also led the team in rebounds averaging 4.1 and 4.0 respectively.
