LumberJacks defeated 5-1 by the Johnnies

Northland kicks off the 2023-24 season at home

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – The Northland College Men's Hockey team was defeated 5-1 by St. John's University Saturday afternoon in Collegeville, Minn., in nonconference play. Senior Jackson Breton scored his first goal of the season to help the Jacks avoid the shutout.
 
The Johnnies started the scoring off late in the first period with a goal from Jacob McPartland. A minute into the second period St. John's doubled its lead and then added two more to go up 4-0. The Jacks got on the board 16 minutes into the second period with a goal coming from Breton, assisting on the goal was Kenny Styles and Zach Ross. In the final period, the Johnnies scored one more goal to win 5-1.
 
Northland recorded 24 shots in game with senior Bryson Cecconi leading the Jacks with four. Behind him was Ben Stewart and Styles with three. Ross and Styles picked up their first assists in the early season. Viktor Wennberg started his third game this season in goal. The senior recorded 35 saves with 15 coming in the second period.
 
The LumberJacks return to the Bay Area Civic Center next week as they host Hamline University on Friday and Augsburg University on Saturday.
