ASHLAND, Wis. – The Northland College Men's Hockey team suffered a 4-1 defeat to Hamline University in nonconference play Friday night in Ashland, Wis. Sophomore
Camille Marcoux scored his fourth goal of the season 37 seconds into the final person of the game.
After the first 20 minutes, the game was knotted up at 0-0 with neither team able to get one past the goalie. The Jacks outshot the Pipers 14-7 and had a man advantage for nearly three minutes after a major penalty but were unable to convert their chances. In the second period, the Pipers roared ahead with three goals in a span of six minutes. Northland had another strong period this time totaling 16 shots but still came up empty. At the start of the final period, Marcoux ended the scoring drought adding a quick goal 37 seconds after the start of the period. For the rest of the period, the Jacks had their opportunities but Maximillian Haselbacher put up a good fight stopping the rest of the shots. In the last stich effort, Northland pulled its goalie but suffered an empty net goal ending the game 4-1.
The Jacks had their most shots in a game this season at 41 but only were able to put one in the back of the net. Marcoux paced the team with nine shots in the game with five coming in the final frame. Freshman junior
Eric Honold was behind him with five. On Marcoux's goal,
Ben Stewart and
Bryson Cecconi picked up the assist. In net,
Viktor Wennberg made 28 saves.
The Jacks continue the homestand tomorrow (Saturday) as they welcome (RV) Augsburg University for a 7 p.m., game at the Bay Area Civic Center.
