ASHLAND, Wis. – The Northland College Men's Hockey team was defeated by the University of Wisconsin-Superior 4-1 in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play Saturday night in Ashland, Wis. The Jacks got on the board first but could not add to it falling to the Yellowjackets.
Coming off a heavy offensive game from the Yellowjackets the LumberJacks held UWS to only 10 shots in the first period. The period started quietly with the first shot coming two and a half minutes in from
Kenny Styles. After that
Viktor Wennberg made four saves in the span of 35 seconds to keep the game scoreless. As both goal tenders made saves it looked like the game was going to be tied after the first period, but
Ben Stewart scored with under two minutes left to give the Jacks a 1-0 lead.
Five minutes in the second period the Yellowjackets leveled the game with a goal from Justin Dauphinais. In the second period, the shots were nearly the same with UWS edging out NC 14-13. Just like the Jacks in the first period, the Yellowjackets scored a goal in the final two minutes to take a lead going into the intermission.
Early in the final period, the Yellowjackets started the pull away with their third goal of the game. UW-Superior ended the scoring at 10:30 remaining with a powerplay goal.
After two highly offensive periods, the Jacks only recorded four shots to finish the game with 25. Stewart paced the Jacks in the game with four shots.
