Jacks suffer their first shutout by Blue Devils

Northland drops conference game

ASHLAND, Wis. – The Northland College Men's Hockey team was shut out for the first time this season, 9-0 by the University of Wisconsin-Stout in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play Friday night in Ashland, Wis.
 
Early in the game, the Blue Devils were awarded a penalty shot. Freshman Andrew Yocum was in net for the Jacks and turned away the shot to keep the game tied at zero. UWS got on the board seven minutes in on a powerplay goal. Before the period ended they added two more.
 
In the second period, the Blue Devils put up 18 shots on net with Yocum saving 17. The Jacks recorded seven shots for the second period in a row with Ben Stewart leading with two.
 
The final period got away from Northland with UW-Stout scoring five in the final 20 minutes. Jake McAlpine recorded a hat trick for the Blue Devils.
 
Northland recorded 25 shots in the game with 11 coming in the third period. Brendan Charlton, Jackson Breton, Logan Gallagher and Stewart all recorded three shots in the losing effort. Charlton and Breton tallied all of their shots in the last period.
 
In net, Yocum made 33 saves. In the third period, Mitch Taylor made his collegiate debut, making four saves.
 
The Jacks travel to the University of Wisconsin-River Falls for a WIAC match with the Falcons on Saturday at 7 p.m.
