Women’s Hockey take part in home and away series Thanksgiving week

LumberJills play in two nonconference series this week

ASHLAND, Wis. – The Northland College Women's Hockey team takes a week off from Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play as they take part in two two-day series against Concordia College, Moorhead and Lawrence University Thanksgiving week.
 
The LumberJills will host Cobbers on Tuesday and Wednesday at 5 p.m., and 12 p.m., respectively. To watch the game click here and to follow livestats click here. The following series Northland will be at Appleton, Wis., taking on the Vikings on Saturday at 7 p.m., and Sunday at 3 p.m. The game can be watched here and livestats can be found here.
 
The Cobbers started the season 1-3-1 and in their most recent series went 0-1-1 against St. Catherine University. CC dropped its first game with the Wildcats 3-2, then forced the second game into overtime where they would later win the shootout. Junior Abbey Reule leads the Cobbers with five points through five games with two goals and three assists.
 
The last time the Cobbers and Jills met was the season opener to the 2022-23 season. Northland trailed by one after the first period. Elle Black scored the game-tying goal five minutes into the second period, the last goal of regulation. The won the game 2-1, scoring in overtime. Concordia leads the series with Northland 7-2.
 
The Vikings are still looking for their first win of the 2023-24, starting 0-6. Last weekend LU squared up with Concordia University, Wisconsin in a home and away series. The Vikings dropped both games to the Falcons, 3-6 and 3-4. Starting the season Lawrence had a series with the University of Wisconsin-Superior where they fell 1-2 and 1-3. Leading the offense for the Vikings is senior Delaney Kingsland with five points coming from three goals and two assists. In the last game against the Falcons Kingsland scored a hat trick.
 
Two seasons ago was the first time the Jills and Vikings met, splitting the two-game series. Northland came out on top in game one 4-1. Yvonne Durfee and Black earned two points in the game both scoring and assisting on a goal.
 
The LumberJills are coming off a big week where they earned their first WIAC points since the 2019-20 season. After trailing 2-0 to UW-Superior the Jills responded with a pair of goals from Lauren Klein and Audrey Ellerington. Forcing the game into overtime. The Yellowjackets had nine shots in the overtime period, but freshman goaltender Karlee Lehner saved all of them to force a shootout. Lehner came up big against stopping all three shots in the shootout. Senior Taylor Richmond scored the only goal in the shootout to earn Northland another conference point.
 
Ellerington leads the team in both goals and points with three and four respectively. She also has the team's only game-winning and game-tying goal. Sophomore Kate Holtz is behind Ellerington with two goals this season coming against St. Kate's and St. Olaf College. Freshman Hannah Baumann ranks fifth in the WIAC with 59 faceoff wins, with Black behind her in seventh with 50.
 
Defensively, Northland leads the conference in blocks, averaging 11.86 per game. Kiley Sims is third in the WIAC with 11 blocked shots and Daphne Gray and Kennedy Gruhlke are behind her tied for fourth with 10. In goal, Lehner has started four of the seven games so far and has a record of 1-2-1. In her four games, she has totaled 146 saves and has a save percentage of 92.4.
