STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The Northland College Men's Hockey team (1-7, 0-2 WIAC) kept up with No. 14 University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (6-2, 3-0 WIAC) but a goal with less than three minutes remaining gave the Pointers a 4-3 victory in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play Saturday night in Stevens Point, Wis.
In the first period, the Pointers had their offense flowing recording 14 shots to the LumberJacks' four. UW-Stevens Point got on the board first with a goal from Fletcher Anderson. With under two minutes left in the first period, freshman
Logan Gallagher had Northland's last shot of the period and sent it past the goalie to level to game at one entering the first intermission.
Two minutes and 25 seconds in the second period, the Jacks had a man advantage. 43 seconds and five shots later

Viktor Wennberg kept UWSP out of the net for a majority of the second period. UWSP leveled the game up with under three minutes to play in the period and then took the lead with 30 left to play in the second.
In the final period the Jacks had their best offensive period with 10 shots, two coming from
Kenny Styles and
Camille Marcoux.
Bryson Cecconi brought Northland level scoring on the powerplay. The Pointers had a great opportunity shortly after the Northland goal with a skater coming out of the penalty box and ending up with a one-on-one with Wennberg. The senior goaltender made the save keeping the game level at three. UWSP pulled ahead with a late up going up 4-3. Northland pulled its goalie for the extra man and started to pepper the goal but unable to find the late equalizer.
In the three period, Northland totaled 22 shots with Ross and Marcoux pacing the team with three. All three goal scorers (Gallagher, Ross and Cecconi) scored their second goal of the season. Two of the three goals by the Jacks came on the powerplay, the last time Northland having two or more powerplay goals in a game was Dec. 9
th of last season against the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.
Defensively,
Sam Holy led the Jacks with two of Northland's eight blocked shots. In net Wennberg made 45 saves with 24 coming in the second period.
The Jacks return to the Bay Area Civic Center next week as they host the University of Wisconsin Superior for a two-game WIAC series starting on Friday.
