ASHLAND, Wis. – The Northland College Women's Hockey team returns to the Bay Area Civic Center Friday afternoon as they host the University of Wisconsin-Superior in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play.

The Yellowjackets are 2-3 overall and 0-1 in the WIAC after the first week of conference play. The two wins for UWS came agonists Lawrence University in its season-opening series. Last week the Yellowjackets were defeated 2-4 by No. 9 University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Junior Cora Coz is the points leader for UW-Superior with four coming from two goals and two assists. Senior Rose Beeman has started in goal for all five games for the Yellowjackets, making 132 saves.
Northland and UW-Superior met last year in the first round of the WIAC Tournament. Before that game the Yellowjackets had not lost to the Jills, winning all 19 contests. The streak was broken as Northland took down the UW-Superior 5-3 to win its first postseason game.
Maddy Bloedel scored the first and the last goal of the game with the latter being shot-handed.
Elle Black scored the game-winning goal on the power play.
The LumberJills suffered two losses by teams in the top 10 to start WIAC play. Against UW-Eau Claire
Kyleigh Moffatt and
Hannah Baumann scored their first career goals, both unassisted. The following day
Audrey Ellerington scored her second goal of the season to help the Jills avoid getting shut out by No. 4 University of Wisconsin-River Falls.
Northland has a four-way tie for points leader in
Kate Holtz,
Taylor Richmond, Baumann, and Ellerington all with two points. Ellerington and Holtz have two goals and Baumann and Richmond have a goal and an assist. All three Northland goalies have started at least one game this season. Freshman
Karlee Lehner has started the most with three and has made 107 saves this season.
