Jacks suffer 3-0 loss to Northwestern

Northland drops first road game of the week

ST. PAUL, Minn.– The Northland College Men's Soccer team fell to the University of Northwestern 3-0 Tuesday evening in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play in St. Paul, Minn. The Jacks were shut out for the first time against a conference opponent this season.

Northland had to play defense for most of the match with the Eagles seeming to have a lot of control. Garrett Miers started the scoring for the Eagles in the 17th minute. Six minutes later, UNW added another to go up by two. In the first half, the Jacks were outshot 12-3. The second half did not fair much better for Northland with Northwestern scoring its final goal in the 59th minute. Ending the match the Eagles had 25 shots to the Jacks five.

Harrison Tibbetts led the team in shots with two coming from the right side of the box but both were not on frame. Chelan Gonzalez had the Jacks only shot on goal in the match with a long-distance attempt that went to the keeper. Also recording a shot in the match were Victor Vancauteren and Anthony Morales. Jamie Colvill had a busy game in goal, recording six saves while seeing 25 come his way.

The Jacks continue their road trip Saturday as they travel to Martin Luther College for a 3:30 p.m., game.

Northland College is an NCAA Division III institution located in Ashland, WI. The LumberJacks and LumberJills sponsor 14 varsity sports and compete in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference, Midwest Lacrosse Conference, and the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
