Jills drop final road game of the season

Northland fell 3-0 to UW-Superior on the road

SUPERIOR, Wis- The Northland Women's Soccer team fell 3-0 to the University of Wisconsin-Superior Wednesday night in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play in Superior, Wis. In the final game road game of the season, the LumberJills held the Yellowjackets to two fewer goals than in their first meeting.

 

The Yellowjackets showed why they are the top-ranked team in the UMAC with a strong attack against the Jills. Northland held UWS without a goal for the first 30 minutes with Elysabeth Lough making four stops. In the 33rd minute, Wisconsin-Superior got on the board with a goal from Olivia Soltero. Nine minutes later the Yellowjackets doubled their lead and were up 2-0 at the half.

 

The Yellowjackets scored their final goal of the match in the first five minutes of the second half. The Jills offense was not able to get much going in the match but the defence stepped up. In the last 40 minutes of play, UWS had 18 shots but Lough kept them out of the goal.

 

Seven student-athletes saw the full 90 minutes in the field: Greta Keffer, Anahi Dia Morales, Clara Schmiesing, Laura Hink, Alyssa Riddle, Kirsten Vensland and Erica Stouten. In goal, Lough saved 10 shots and saw 38 come her way.
 

Northland Women's Soccer wraps up its season Saturday as they host the University of Northwestern at Ponzio Stadium at 1 p.m.
