Jills battle but fall short against Polars

Crown College tops Northland 2-1

ASHLAND, Wis. – The Northland College Women's Soccer team fell short against Crown College 2-1 Tuesday evening in Ashland, Wis., in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference action. Norah Green scored her second goal of the season in the final seconds of the game to brings the Jills within one.
 
Like most games this season Elysabeth Lough came up big making early saves to keep the Jills in the game. In the first five minutes, Lough recorded two saves. In the 24th minute Madie Linka had the first shot for Northland. The Polars got on the score sheet in the 32nd minute with a goal from Emma Domka. For the last 15 minutes three shots were recorded ending the first period of play 1-0 in favor of Crown.
 
Greta Keffer had the first shot of the second half that sailed to the right. The Polars had a few shots following but the LumberJills' defense held them to poor shots keeping the advantage to one. In the 74th minute, Crown College doubled their lead to two with Lexi Shreve scoring. As time was winding down Northland had a free kick from outside the box. Kirsten Vensland swung in the ball from the free kick finding Green with 15 seconds left in the game.
 
Northland recorded six shots in the match, Keffer and Green led the team with two. Also recording shots in the match were Reece Gellerman and Linka. Green scored her second goal this season, both coming in the final minute of play. Senior Vensland recorded her collegiate point with the assist to Green, normally playing in the backline, she had a role in the midfield during the game. Lough recorded five saves in the net for the LumberJills.
 
The Jills travel to Mankato, Minn., for their next UMAC match to compete against Bethany Lutheran College at 1 p.m., on Saturday.
 
Northland College is an NCAA Division III institution located in Ashland, WI. The LumberJacks and LumberJills sponsor 14 varsity sports and compete in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference, Midwest Lacrosse Conference, and the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
