Jills fight hard but fall 2-0 to the Cougars

Minnesota-Morris defeats Northland in Ashland

ASHLAND, Wis. – The Northland College Women's Soccer team was defeated 2-0 by the University of Minnesota, Morris Saturday afternoon in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play in Ashland, Wis. Despite playing with 10 players for most of the match the Jills held the Cougars to only two goals.
 
The match started off with an early goal by the Cougars. UMM had a corner kick that took a bad defection off the LumberJills for an own goal. Northland had their first shot right after the goal when Greta Keffer had a shot. At the 12-minute mark Clara Schmiesing was given a card and a minute later, she saw a red, leaving the Jills with only 10 players on the field for 77 minutes. The Jills defense held strong and with Elysabeth Lough in goal, limited the Cougars to only one goal in the half. Lough made eight saves in the first period of play.
 
Minnesota Morris doubled its advantage in the 66th minute with Caroline O'Donnell scoring the goal. The Jills had one shot coming from Keffer that was on frame. The defensive held strong for the rest of the half ending it 2-0 in favor of UMM.
 
In the match, Northland had three shots with Keffer totaling two and Madie Linka had the other. Lough had another strong showing in goal seeing 25 shots with 14 on target. Lough had her seventh game in a row with double-digit saves with 12.
 
Northland has a short turnaround with its next match on Tuesday as they host Crown College at 4:30 p.m.
