Tibbetts records another multigoal game in the win

ASHLAND, Wis. – The Northland College Men's Soccer team scored four goals in the second half to win big over the University of Minnesota, Morris 5-0 in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference action Saturday evening in Ashland, Wis. Harrison Tibbetts had his fifth multigoal game scoring two in the win.

In the first half, both teams combined for only three shots on goal. Neither team was able to get the shots off they wanted leading to few shots. In the 28th minute, Diego Castaneda was taken down in the box, and Tibbetts stepped up and slotted in the first goal from the spot. The Jacks entered half up 1-0.

The Jacks exploded in the second half with four goals. Eight minutes into the second half Sorel Richardson doubled the lead getting an assist from Victor Vancauteren. Tibbetts had his second goal of the match in the 71st minute with Ezra Walt sending him the ball that gave him the one-on-one with the keeper. Four minutes later Nolan Melek got past the keeper and crossed the ball in front of the net. Vancauteren slid into the net with the ball to bring the score to 4-0. Anthony Morales ended the scoring after stealing the ball from a bad goal kick and found the back post.

After only two shots on goal in the first half, the Jacks had five in the second period of play. Throughout the game, Northland totaled 19 shots. Tibbetts led the offensive with six shots, three on goal, and two goals. Behind him was Richardson with three shots and the one on target found its way to the back of the net.

Making his second start in goal was sophomore Tjaden Whisenhunt. Whisenhunt picked up his first win of the season and first collegiate full-game shutout. In the first half, he made one save and the Northland defensive made his job easy not allowing a shot from the Cougars in the second half.
