Northland Runners Compete at St. Olaf

The Northland Men's and Women's Cross Country teams competed in the St. Olaf Invitational in Northfield, Minnesota on Saturday morning. Beck Pope and Alexandria Espinoza led the Men's and Women's teams, respectively.

Running first on Saturday morning, the Northland College Women's Cross Country team welcomed a few runners back from preseason injury to finish with a team score for the first time in 2022. The LumberJills finished 20th out the 23 schools who competed. Alexandria Espinoza paced the Jills in the 6k event with a time of 31:39.5. Josie Fritz (33:33.2), Aurora Wier (37:04.6), Shoshana Caldas (42:47.3) and Tess Hecker (46:44.4) rounded out the five scorers for Northland. 

Carleton College, who had the top three runners overall, finished in first place. Individually, Carleton's Clara Mayfield won the race with a time of 21:11.9.

The Men's team, running in their first 8k event of the season, had ten total runners compete on Saturday. Beck Pope led the team for the third time this season with a time of 31:36.5. Kyle Parker (33:49.4), Brandon Faber (33:58.5), Ben Thompson (35:38.0) and Ben Berkemeyer (35:55.5) all turned in scoring times for the LumberJacks.

The host school, St. Olaf College, finished in first place. Individually, Augsburg University's Mohammed Bati won the race with a time of 25:18.5.

The two teams will next compete in the Blugold Invite, hosted by UW-Eau Claire, on Friday, September 30th.
