Concordia College scored two goals in the third period to defeat Northland 3-1 in a Men's Hockey game on Friday night.

Ashland, Wisconsin - Northland College Men's Hockey played their second home game of the week on Friday night at the Bay Area Civic Center in Ashland, Wisconsin. The LumberJacks played host to Concordia College for the first game of Alumni/Parent Weekend, unfortunately coming up short against the Cobbers by a score of 3-1. On a night when the team welcomed back many alums of the program, it was the Cobbers who scored twice in the third period to spoil the first game of the weekend.
The first period began with several Northland shots on goal. Bryson Cecconi and Eric Honald each took shots in the first couple minutes that were saved by the Cobbers goalie.
Brendan Charlton ripped another LumberJack shot that was saved to give the Jacks an early shot advantage. A Concordia penalty at the 6:28 mark put the LumberJacks on the power play and helped further the momentum in Northland's favor. Three LumberJack shots later and the Cobbers had killed the first man advantage of the night. The two teams traded shots for the next eleven minutes before Concordia broke the scoreless draw in the periods final minute. A last second shot from
Tristan Petrie couldn't even the score and the Jacks went into the break down by one.
Northland jumped on the power play early in the second period. The Cobbers, however, out-shot the Jacks while down a player and the man advantage was unsuccessful again. The two teams spent much of the second in the penalty box. Both teams came up empty on the power play in the period.
Chris Curr made 16 saves in the period to keep the Cobbers off the board. In the final seconds of the period the LumberJacks were able to break through and even the score. Freshman Brock Weimer scored his first collegiate goal at the 19:51 mark. Max Collette and
Andrew Liwiski picked up assists on the play and Northland went into the second break tied at 1.
Unfortunately, the Cobbers scored two goals in the third period to win the game 3-1. Curr finished the contest with 33 saves. The Jacks were out-shot 36-20 and finished 0/5 on the power play.
Northland (0-2-1, 0-0 WIAC) will have a quick turnaround as they conclude Alumni/Parent weekend on Saturday. Face off is scheduled for 3:00 PM as the LumberJacks take on St. John's University at the Bay Area Civic Center.
