Northland College Men's Soccer team traveled to the University of Northwestern on Friday afternoon for their second conference matchup with the Eagles of the season. Two weeks ago the two teams played to a 1-1 draw at home. Fortunately, the LumberJacks were able to come away with a big road win with the 2-0 shutout this time around. The win, not only kept the Jacks in third place in the UMAC standings, but it guaranteed them a spot in the UMAC playoffs.

Despite being outshot in the first half 9-5 overall, the LumberJacks were able to take the early lead when freshman Harrison Tibbetts scored in the game's 19th minute. Senior Jonah Evans picked up an assist on the goal. Northland's keeper, Jamie Colvill, was able to save all four of the Eagles' shots on goal in the half to allow the LumberJacks to take the one goal advantage into halftime.

Northland added an insurance goal in the first ten minutes of the second half. Izaak Clarke, the LumberJacks' leading scorer on the season, scored his eighth goal of the season in the 58th minute. The Jacks were able to get a few more shots on goal in the half, but couldn't add to the score for the final 32 minutes. Colvill finished the contest with five saves enroute to his third shutout of the season.

For the fourth straight year, the LumberJacks have earned a spot in the UMAC postseason. Northland is currently in third place in the standings with three UMAC contests left. The postseason will begin on Wednesday, November 2nd with the higher seed serving as host. Northland will be back on the pitch tomorrow at North Central University for a 1:00PM kickoff.

Northland College is an NCAA Division III institution located in Ashland, WI. The LumberJacks and LumberJills sponsor 14 varsity sports and compete in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference, Midwest Lacrosse Conference and the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
