The Northland College Women's Soccer team squared off with the visiting YellowJackets of UW-Superior at home on Tuesday night. The game marked the start to the second half of conference play in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference, and the second time the two teams have matched up this season. Northland was able to avenge an earlier season loss to the YellowJackets with a 1-1 tie. The draw allowed the LumberJills to pick up a much-needed point in the standings off the undefeated YellowJackets.

The LumberJills were able to put all three of their shots on goal in the first half, but were out-shot 10-3. Elysabeth Lough, who has started each game of the season in goal, made four saves to keep UW-Superior off the scoreboard. Liberty Dickerson, Greta Keffer and Justus Manuelito each recorded shots in the half for the Jills, but the game remained knotted at the half.

The YellowJackets openned the second half with several scoring opportunities within the first three minutes, including a corner kick. They earned 12 corners in the game. Mya Holmquist gave Superior the lead when she found the net in the game's 49th minute. Playing defense for a majority of the half the LumberJills started to work up the sideline late in the half. After several throw-ins inched them closer and a Northland clearance put the ball deep near Superior's end line the LumberJills earned their only corner kick of the game in the 88th minute. Dickerson sent the ball into the box where Isabelle McCurry was able to get a foot on it and kick it past the keeper for the tying goal. The goal was McCurry's first of the season, and the only shot of the second half for Northland.

"We presented the team with a gameplan that the coaching staff knew could give us an opportunity," said head coach Dan Dubois. "Fortunately for us, the team trusted the plan and played a great game. Superior has been the bar for the UMAC the last couple of years. For us to earn a point in the standings off them is a great feeling. We have a long road ahead of us still, but the result should give us confidence moving forward."

Northland (2-7-3, 1-3-3 UMAC) will return to Ponzio Stadium on Friday as they host Bethany Lutheran College at 3:30 PM.

Northland College is an NCAA Division III institution located in Ashland, WI. The LumberJacks and LumberJills sponsor 14 varsity sports and compete in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference, Midwest Lacrosse Conference and the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
