ASHLAND, Wis.--- The Northland College Men's Soccer team hosted Blackburn College today from the beautiful campus of Northland College at Ponzio Stadium in their 2021 season opener.
Lee Dennis buried a penalty kick goal in the second overtime to lift the Jacks over Blackburn in the second overtime to pick up the win 2-1.

After a slow start between both teams, Northland quickly found their grove as
Jonah Evans opened the scoring for the LumberJacks with a blast off of his right foot at the 9:46 mark of the first half.
Ainsworth Grant collected the assist on the Evans goal to make it 1-0 for the Jacks. The Jacks continued to maintain possession and pressure but wouldn't be able to extend their lead as Northland took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
In the second half, Blackburn found an opening inside the box of Northland to tie the game at 1 just 11 minutes into the start of the second half. With the time winding down,
Jonah Evans would draw a foul inside the box to set up a Penalty Kick.
Osman Padilla would take the kick for the Jacks but he would be denied as the game would continue at one a piece after regulation and would need overtime.
After a near goal off the foot from Freshman
Nick Diaz in the first overtime, neither team would be able to find the net. In the second overtime,
Ainsworth Grant would place a beautiful ball inside the box as a Northland forward would be thrown down to set up another penalty kick. This time,
Lee Dennis would have his number called for the shot, striking it past the goalie from Blackburn and the Jacks would walk away with a 2-1 win in double overtime to open the 2021 season.
Northland would out shoot Blackburn 25-10 in today's game.
Jamie Colvill, who made some specatular saves in goals today for the Jacks, finished with 5 saves on the day.
The Jacks will have a quick turnaround as they travel to Northfield, MN for a non-conference matchup vs. St. Olaf College. Game time is set to start at 1pm.
