Jacks Finish Strong but Fall to UWS in UMAC Home Opener

ASHLAND, Wis.--- The Northland College Men's Soccer team hosted UW-Superior this afternoon in their UMAC home opener of the season. The Jacks would fall by a final score of 3-0.

Box Score

In the opening frame of the first half, it was UWS who broke through for the lead, scoring two goals just two minutes apart to take the 2-0 lead. UWS continued to maintain pressure on the LumberJacks and were once again rewarded, scoring their third goal of the game to make it 3-0 as UWS would take the lead into halftime.

After halftime adjustments, it was the LumberJacks on the attack as Izaak Clarke shot through the UWS defense but was unable to capitalize. Later in the half, it looked as though the LumberJacks would be awarded a penalty kick after a UWS handball but the play was later reversed as UWS maintained their 3-0 lead. After an Ainsworth Grant foul inside the box which led to a penalty kick for UWS, goalie Jamie Colvill made a spectacular diving save to keep the game 3-0. Grant, Clarke and Nick Diaz, later all had chances to score but the Jacks couldn't get on the board as UWS took the match 3-0 over the Jacks.

Colvill made 8 saves in net today for the Jacks.

The Jacks will travel to Appleton, WI this Monday (Sep 20th) for a non-conference matchup vs. Lawrence University. Game time is set to start at 7pm.

Northland College is an NCAA Division III institution located in Ashland, WI. The LumberJacks and LumberJills sponsor 14 varsity sports and compete in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference, Midwest Lacrosse Conference and the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
