Ashland, WI – The Northland College Lumberjills faced off against the UW-Superior Yellowjackets in their second WIAC contest of the year on Friday evening. Despite a closely fought game, the Jills ultimately fell to the Yellowjackets by a score of 3-1. With the loss the Jills are now 0-7 and 0-2 in the WIAC.
The Yellowjackets got the scoring started at the 11:20 mark of the first period. The Jills responded with a goal at the end of the period during 4 on 4 play when
Kiera Richards was able to get the puck in front of the net and finish past the Yellowjacket goaltender.
The Yellowjackets retook their lead midway through the second period by taking advantage of a power play opportunity. Jamie Davison put her team ahead off a pass from C.C. Hayes and Amanda Sergent. The Yellowjackets added to their lead early in the third period, and despite several good chances from the Jills which included a power play late in the third period, were able to prevent a late game comeback and leave Ashland with the 3-1 win.
Soleil Archambeault made 39 saves in net for the Jills.
The Jills are in action next on Tuesday when they travel to Concordia College.
