Ashland, WI – The Northland College Lumberjills took on the UW-Superior Yellow Jackets on Friday evening in the first game of their final regular season series. The Jills competed early on but ultimately fell to the Yellow Jackets by a score of 5-1. The Jills are now 6-16-2 on the year.
The Jills looked like a different team than the last time these two teams met as both teams created several scoring chances throughout the first period. The Yellow Jackets got on the scoreboard at the 12:35 mark of the period to take a 1-0 lead.
Teagen Johnson held the Yellow Jackets at bay for the rest of the period and the Jills entered the locker room trailing 1-0 at the first intermission.
The Jills found the back of the net late in the second period when
Kylie Wickiser found
Jess Jerome who tied the game at 1-1. The Jills nearly entered the third period with the score tied 1-1, but the Yellow Jackets retook the lead with only twenty seconds left in the period.
The Yellow Jackets got on the board three times in the final period to skate away with the 5-1 win.
Teagen Johnson made 35 saves in goal for the Jills.
The Jills finish up their regular season at home tomorrow when they honor their seniors at 4:00 against UW-Superior.
