Ashland, WI – The Northland College Lumberjacks took on the Saint John's University Johnnies on Saturday afternoon, less than 24 hours after the Jacks had a thrilling 2-2 overtime tie against Concordia University. The Jacks lead early but ultimately fell to the Johnnies by a score of 3-2.
The Jacks started off strong and quickly went ahead in the first period off of a goal from
Kurt Sonne. The Jacks lead was short lived, however, as Brett Meister found the back of the net for the Johnnies less than a minute later.
The Johnnies took the lead late in the second period when Dan Wieber found the back off the net off of a pass from Jack Johnson.
The third period got off to a wild start as both teams scored in the opening minute. The Jacks first tied the game after just 22 seconds on a power play goal from Kalib Ford. Only a few seconds later, the Johnnies retook the lead on a power play goal from Brady Heppner. The Jacks piled on the shots in search of an equalizer for the remainder of the game, but they were unable to find the back of the net.
Gennaro Anzevino made 32 saves in net for the Jacks.
The Jacks are off till next weekend when they travel to Gustavus Adolphus College. The Jacks have three away games in a row and eventually return home on January 25
th to host UW-Stout.
