Ashland, WI – The Northland College Lumberjacks faced off against the Concordia College (MN) Cobbers on Friday evening in non-conference action, and ultimately after three periods and an overtime, no winner was decided as the game finished at 2-2. The Jacks are now 4-10-1 on the year.
The first period was a battle between both teams goaltenders as both
Gennaro Anzevino for Northland and Cam Haugenoe for Concordia came up with save after save to keep the game scoreless.
The Jacks jumped out to the lead first off of a goal from
Ty Krause in the second period. The Cobbers, however, responded with two goals before the end of the period to take a 2-1 lead into the third.
The Cobbers held onto their one goal lead for almost the entire third period, until
Jared Hester found the back of the net with only 18 seconds remaining on the clock. The Jacks pulled their goalie after a timeout with 1:30 left, and after firing several shots on net, Hester finished off a rebound to tie the game at 2-2 and set up overtime.
The Jacks had a 6-3 shots on goal advantage during the overtime period, but ultimately they couldn't find the game winner and had to settle for the tie.
The Jacks are in action tomorrow afternoon when they host Saint John's University. The game is set for a 3:00pm start.
