Jills Cruise Past Thunder

The Jills traveled to Angola, IN for an NCHA contest against the Trine University Thunder tonight.

The teams traded shots with each other to start the first. With 11:43 elapsed in the period the Thunder would take the first lead of the game. However, the Jills would tie it up a few minutes later when Amanda Abounader would put it into the back the net, tying the game up at 1-1. She was assisted by Samantha Scott and Markia Smith. The Jills would go into the first intermission with the 1-1 tie intact.

An early penalty in the second allowed the Thunder to pressure the Jills, but the Jills would be able to keep them out of the net, preserving the tie. Robyn Matula would give the Jills the 2-1 lead with 8:07 elapsed in the period. She was assisted by Samantha Scott and Kylie Wickiser. The Jills threatened to widen their lead late in the period, but would go into the third still up 2-1.

The Thunder attacked the net early in the third, but the Jills continued to keep them at bay. The teams continued to battle for possession throughout the third, tallying shots on goal. Michaela Isetts-Williams would give the Jills some insurance late, as she would score an empty net goal with just over 20 seconds remaining in the game. She was assisted by Ashley Hammes. The Jills would win by a final score of 3-1.

Gabby Suhr finished the game with 33 saves.

The Jills will be back on the ice tomorrow (2/9) at Trine University. Puck drop is scheduled for 2pm (EST).

Northland College is an NCAA Division III institution located in Ashland, WI. The LumberJacks and LumberJills sponsor 14 varsity sports and compete in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference and the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association.
