Fond Du Lac, WI –
The Jacks traveled to Marian University tonight, squaring off against the Sabres for the first round of the Harris Cup Playoffs.
The teams started the first battling up and down the ice, trying to control the puck. The Jacks quickly gained possession and began tallying shots on goal. It would take some time, but the Jacks would strike first as
Bailey Shaver found the back of the net with 15:30 elapsed in the period. He was assisted by
Lucas DeBenedet and
Jared Hester. The Jacks continued attacking the net, but wouldn't be able to add to their lead before the end of the period. They went into the second up 1-0.
The Sabres attacked the net early in the second, but the Jacks would stay strong defensively, holding them scoreless. The Jacks grew their lead when
Kyle Pouncy ripped a shot between the pipes to put the Jacks up 2-0. He was assisted by
Ty Kraus and
Kurt Sonne. The Jacks would go into the third with the shutout still intact.
The Jacks remained in control to start the third. A Sabres' penalty would create an opportunity for the Jacks to widen their lead, but they weren't able to capitalize. The Sabres would be forced to pull their goalie late in the period. With less than 30 seconds remaining in the game the Sabres would get on the board, scoring an extra attacker goal. However, it was too late as the Jacks held on to win by a final score of 2-1.
David Krejcik finished with 34 saves on the night.
The Jacks will be back on the ice tomorrow (2/16) for game two of the Harris Cup Playoffs Quarterfinals against Marian University. Puck drop is scheduled for 4pm.
