Ashland, WI - The Northland College Lumberjills faced off against the 4
th ranked team in the country on Saturday evening in the University of Wisconsin-River Falls Falcons. The Falcons used goals in all three periods and eventually downed the Jills 6-0. With the win, the Falcons improve to 5-0 and 2-0 in the WIAC, while the Jills are now 2-5 and 0-2 in the WIAC.
Gabby Suhr kept the Jills in the game early, turning away 20 shots in the first period. The Falcons Reilly Springman got the Falcons on the board off of assists from Madi Nolan and Abigail Stow with 7:16 left in the first.
The Falcons didn't waste much time in the second period, as Brook Walters was able to find the back of the net in the opening minute. The Jills had a few chances to cut into the lead, but the Falcons goaltender, Sami Miller, turned away all eight shots she faced. Suhr once again kept the Falcons off the board for the rest of the period and allowed the Jills to enter the third only trailing 2-0.
The Falcons broke the game open in the third period with an early goal, before adding three in the final seven minutes to finish the game at 6-0. Suhr finished with a game high 47 saves. The Jills'
Robyn Matula created several chances as she had a team high four shots.
The Jills are off till next Friday, when they travel to the University of Wisconsin-Superior. They return home the following day to host The College of St. Scholastica.
