Milwaukee, WI – The Northland College Men's Hockey Team took on the Milwaukee School of Engineering Raiders in two games this weekend to open up their season. The Lumberjacks would come up short in the first game by the score of 3-1.
In the Lumberjacks' season opener, the Lumberjacks came out with a lot of energy. The game was evenly matched until the Raiders struck first at the 9:39 mark. Both teams would trade penalties before the end of the period; however, neither team was able to capitalize on the Power Play.
In the 2
nd period, the Jacks came out with high intensity looking for the equalizer. They created a lot of opportunities; however, they could not find the back of the net. The Raiders would take advantage of one of their opportunities at the 9:47 mark, that would put them up by a score of 2-0.
In the 3
rd period, the Lumberjacks were able to cut the score in half with a goal from
Cameron Coutre, which was assisted by Kalib Ford and
Cole Woodliffe. Northland continued to press for another goal in the 3
rd to equalize, but the Raiders were able to beat them to the punch and would score at the 15:22 mark to cap the scoring on the night.
The Lumberjacks would start the season (0-1), while the Raiders would improve to (3-0).
Northland College is an NCAA Division III institution located in Ashland, WI. The LumberJacks and LumberJills sponsor 14 varsity sports and compete in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference.
