Minneapolis, MN
Due to unplayable field conditions in Ashland, the Northland College Baseball team traveled to the campus of Northwestern University in Minneapolis, MN today for a conference double-header vs. Crown College. The Jacks would come away with a sweep, winning both games by scores of 4-3 and 13-7.
In game one , with the LumberJacks as the home team,
Anthony Corrado would get the start on the mound. Crown would waste no time getting on the board with a run in the top of the first inning for the early 1-0 lead. Northland would answer with two runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning as
Alex Loberger would single to score
John Aguirre.
Paden Kottwitz would later single to score Loberger to take the 2-1 lead. Corrado would continue to be dominant on the mound but Crown would slowly chip away with runs in the 5th and 6th innings to take 3-2 lead.
Will Lee would lead off the bottom of the 7th inning with a single followed by a double from
Rian Arreazola. Aguirre would have a sac rbi to score Lee to tie things up 3-3. Senior
Jakob Freele would come up in the clutch with an rbi single to score Arreazola and take the 4-3 lead.
Carson Ferry would come in relief for 3 solid innings to shut the door and the Jacks would take game one 4-3.
Corrado, who has been the workhorse on the mound for the LumberJacks this year, would go 6 innings, giving up 8 hits and 4 earned runs whole striking out 4. Ferry pitch a perfect 3 innings of relief not giving up a single hit or runs while striking out 6.
Freele and Lee would both go 2-4 at the plate.
Game 1
In game 2, Freshman
Seth Bayliss would get the start on the mound for the Jacks. Crown would score two runs in the top of the 2nd inning to take the early 2-0 lead. Northland would respond in the bottom of the 2nd with two runs of their own, as
Jakob Freele would have an rbi single that scored
Shawn O'Connell.
Alex Loberger would later have an rbi single of his own that would score
Rian Arreazola to tie things up at 2. Crown would retake the lead in the 3rd inning with two more runs to make it 4-2.
Jakob Freele would continue his dominance at the plate with a sac fly to make it 4-3 in the bottom of the 4th inning. Crown would add runs in the 5th and 8th innings to take the commanding 6-3 lead. Just when it seemed like things were not going to go Northland's way in game two, the Jacks would explode for 8 runs in the bottom of the 8th inning. Highlighting the inning was a 3 rbi home run blast from
Adrian Bethel. When the damage was done, the Jacks would lead 13-7.
Ernie Robrecht would close the door in the 9th inning and the Jacks would take game 2 13-7.
Bayliss, who would pitch strong in game 2, would go 6.1 innings, giving up 3 earned runs off of 5 hits and would strike out 2.
Anthony Corrado and RIan Arreazola would both have two hits for the Jacks in game two.
Game 2
Next up for the Jacks will be a conference double-header vs. UW-Superior (4/24) in Superior, WI. First pitch of game one is set for 10 A.M.
