Jills Win on the Road

Milwaukee, WI -

Despite a slow offensive start, the Northland College Lumberjills hit their free throws down the stretch to beat the Mount Mary University Blue Angels 65-56 in Milwaukee.

The Blue Angels came out hitting their shots going up 7-0 to start the game.  The LumberJills roared back to take the lead 11-10 at the end of the first quarter. Northland extended its lead to 28-18 at halftime behind 8 points from Katie Taylor. Foul trouble stalled the offensive output of the LumberJills and the Blue Angels soared back to narrow the Northland lead to 43-38 at the end of the third quarter.  Mount Mary continued to give Northland a fight and pulled within 3,making the score 45-42. Freshmen Bianca Avalos and Lindsay Bressette hit key 3 point shots and the LumberJills converted from the free throw line when the Blue Angels were forced to foul, scoring the last 5 points of the game.  Bianca Avalos led Northland with 15 points and Katie Taylor finished with 14. Emily Wagner put up a double double with 11 points and 12 rebounds for the LumberJills. The Blue Angels were led by Melissa Golo with 15 points and Erica Williams chipped in 12.  

Northland has another match up with Mount Mary University on Tuesday, facing the Blue Angels in Stevens Point, WI. Tip off is set for 6pm.

Northland College is an NCAA Division III institution located in Ashland, WI. The LumberJacks and LumberJills sponsor 14 varsity sports and compete in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference and the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association.
