Jacks Score 5 in Win over UW-Superior

Ashland, WI -

The Jacks hosted non-conference opponent the University of Wisconsin-Superior YellowJackets tonight at the Bay Area Civic Center.

The Jacks started strong offensively tonight, as they immediately pressured the YellowJackets goaltender. An early Jacks' penalty had them playing short handed, but Ty Krause would be able to find the back of the net, to break the scoreless tie. Kyle Pouncy and Kurt Sonne assisted on the play. The YellowJackets tried to answer, but the Jacks would keep them off of the board. They would take their 1-0 lead into halftime.

The YellowJackets finally broke through in the second, tying the game up at 1-1. They would be able to take the lead later in the period, forcing the Jacks to play from behind. The Jacks stepped up their offense late in the second, but weren't able to tie it before the second intermission.

The Jacks continued their strong offensive showing in the third period as Kurt Sonne would tie it up less than two minutes into the third. He was assisted by Ty Krause and Kyle Gonzalez. A few minutes later Kalib (Gus) Ford would join in on the scoring, giving the Jacks a 3-2 lead. Michael Courvoisier and Jared Hester were credited with assists on the play. The Jacks didn't stop there as Jacob Jeske added another goal. He was assisted by Kurt Sonne and Josh Racek. The YellowJackets cut the Jacks lead down to one, but Lucas DeBenedet would seal it for the Jacks when he would score an empty net goal with just over a minute remaining in the game. The Jacks held on to win by a final score of 5-3.

David Krejcik finished the night with 30 saves.
