The Jills hosted non-conference opponent the Silver Lake College Lakers tonight at the Chapple Family Gymnasium.
The Jills started the scoring off right away with an
Emily Howe 3-pointer, quickly giving the Jills an early lead. The Jills would continue to build their lead early in the first, but the Lakers wouldn't be deterred. A 10-0 Laker run would give them the lead over the Jills. However, the Jills would be able to retake the lead off of a
Katherine Taylor 3-pointer. The Jills held on to their lead, going into the second quarter up 19-17.
The Jills' offense came strong in the second as they would continue to widen their lead over the Lakers to twelve. However, the Lakers continued to stay in the game, cutting the Jills lead in half. The Jills went into halftime with a six point lead still intact.
The teams traded shots with one another to start the third. The Jills would build their lead to nine, but the Lakers would come roaring back to tie the game up at 49-49. The back and forth battle continued for the remainder of the quarter, but it would be the Jills who would go into the fourth up by 1.
The fourth continued to be back and forth. The Lakers would be able to retake the lead, and eventually went up by four. However, a layup by
Emily Wagner would put the Jills back on top. The Jills wouldn't give up their lead, as they held on to win by a final score of 71-67.
Bryza Pizano and
Emily Wagner led the Jills with 15 points each, while
Katherine Taylor recorded 14.
Autumn Ninke had a team high 10 rebounds, while
Bryza Pizano tallied 7.
The Jills will be back on the court 11/23 at Providence University in Manitoba, Canada. Tip off is set to begin at 6pm.
