The Jacks hosted the #14 nationally ranked University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Blugolds tonight at the Bay Area Civic Center.
In front of a large hometown crowd, the Jacks would come out of the gate fast as
Ty Krause would bury the puck in the back of the net to put the Jacks up 1-0. He was assisted by
Zackary Fisher and
Lucas DeBenedet on the play. However, the Blugolds would answer seconds later with 2 quick goals, taking a 2-1 lead over the Jacks. The Jacks tightened up their defense for the remainder of the period, keeping the Blugolds out of the net. They would go into the first intermission down 2-1.
The second period saw both teams play tough defense, battling each other for possession of the puck. The Jacks created scoring opportunities throughout the period, but couldn't get any of their shots to land. However, the Jacks defense would stay strong and hold the Blugolds scoreless for the remainder of ther period. They would go into the third period still trailing the Blugolds by one.
The Jacks would be able to break through the Blugolds' defense early in third as
Kurt Sonne would rip a shot into the net, to tie the game up at 2-2. He was assisted by
Kalib (Gus) Ford and
Jared Hester. The Blugolds would answer with less than five minutes remaining in the period to retake the lead. The Jacks once again created scoring opportunities, but couldn't capitalize. The fell by a final score of 3-2.
Northland Goaltender
Victor Forslund recorded 3 saves, while
David Krejcik finished with 31.
The Jacks will be on the road 11/2 at Lake Forest College. Puck drop is set for 7pm.
