Ashland, WI -
The LumberJills hosted NCHA opponent the Finlandia University Lions tonight.
Both teams came out ready to go as they battled back and forth on the ice. The Jills pressured the Lions throughout the period launching shots at the net. Despite being in control for most of the period, the Jills found themselves going into the second period with a scoreless tie.
The Lions started the scoring in the second period with a quick goal eight seconds into the period. The Jills would once again take control of the game, peppering the net with shots. However, they wouldn't be able to get any shots to land in the back of the net. The Jills outshot the Lions 17-10, but would go into the third period down 1-0.
In the third, the Lions would manage to score an insurance goal and widened their lead to 2-0. A power play gave the Jills an opportunity to get back into the game and they took advantage, as
Kylie Fahmer would rip a shot past the Lions' goaltender, with assists going to
Samantha Scott and
Allyson Reilly to get the Jills on the board. However, it wouldn't be enough, as the Lions would be able to get one more goal before the end of the half. The Lions won by a final score of 3-1.
