12/9/2017 6:46:00 PM

Ashland, WI -

The LumberJills hosted the College of Saint Benedict Blazers again today for the second game of their weekend doubleheader at the Bay Area Civic Center.

The Jills would come out of the gate ready to go, as they would immediately test the Blazers' goaltender. However, none of the shots would find the back of the net. The Blazers picked up their offensive attack late in the period and were able to get a shot to land to break up the scoreless tie and take the 1-0 lead. The Jills again threatened, but would not be able to score before the end of the period.

The Blazers would pressure the Jills early in the period, but the Jills would be able to keep them in check and tie the game up with a goal from Sophomore Emma Vandergeest, she was assisted by fellow Sophomores Ashley Hammes and Ally Covert. The Jills wouldn't be done scoring in the period as Sophomore Robyn Matula would launch it past the Blazer goaltender to break the tie and put the Jills up 2-1, with assists once again from Covert and Hammes. The Jills held the Blazers scoreless for the remainder of the period and took their lead into the third.

The Blazers struck first in the third to tie it up 2-2 and would re-take the lead 3-2 a few minutes later in the period. However, the Jills would answer in less than a minute later as Sophomore Michaela Isetts-Williams ripped a shot into the back of the net to even the score for the Jills. Northland would continue to threaten the Blazers throughout the period, but weren't able to break the tie, sending the game into overtime where the Blazers would find the net with under a minute remaining. The Jills lost by a final score of 4-3.

Freshman Morgan Hirsch had 39 saves on the day.

The LumberJills will be back in action on 1/5 on the road against the University of Wisconsin-Superior Yellowjackets. The game is scheduled for a 3pm start.

Northland College is an NCAA Division III institution located in Ashland, WI. The LumberJacks and LumberJills sponsor 15 varsity sports and compete in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference and the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association.
