LumberJill Hockey Gets the Shutout

The LumberJill hockey team got its second win in as many games today beating Post University.  Post is another new women's hockey program this year who traveled all the way from Waterbury, Connecticut.  The LumberJills got out to a quick start and never looked back as the topped the Eagles 7-0.

Just under three minutes into the game, Northland's Allyson Reilly scored her first goal of the day with assists from Samantha Scott and Ashley Hammes. Then after an Eagle penalty, Kylie Fahmer got her first goal of the season on a power play.  Reilly got the assist.  Just five minutes later, Reilly and Fahmer would score again, this time Reilly scoring her second goal of the day and Fahmer with the assist.  Northland kept the pressure on all period and out shot Post 22-1 in the 1st

The 2nd period the LumberJills kept up the pressure but were unable to score until the final three minutes when they scored twice.  Markia Smith scored her first goal of the season with an assist from Robyn Matula and then Destiny Muir scored with just :29 seconds left in the period, Hammes and Reilly got the assists for that goal.  The 2nd period would end with the LumberJills up 5-0. 

Matula would get the scoring going again in the final period with an unassisted goal just over a minute in.  After another Post penalty, Amanda Abounder would score a goal on a power play with Scott getting her second assist of the game on the final LumberJill goal of the day. 

Northland would outshoot the Eagles 67-9 in the game, with Chloe Marshall getting her 1st career shutout.  Reilly would have two goals and two assists on the day. 

Head Coach Kelly Rider was happy with the LumberJills play today, "It was nice to see our hard work and preparation from all season long pay off on the scoreboard in our favor today.  We also had significant contributions from everyone in the lineup. Chloe Marshall got her first collegiate shutout. Kylie Fahmer and Markia Smith also tallied their first collegiate goals. Vivienne Kallio was also a plus four."
 
The LumberJills will take on the Eagles again on Saturday for the second game of the series at the Bay Area Civic Center.  Game time is 2:00pm.
