The LumberJill hockey team hosted the Finlandia University Lions tonight at the Bay Area Civic Center. Northland was looking for the program's first ever home win, and tonight they got it. A strong 3
rd period helped push them past Finlandia for a 4-2 win.
Northland came out and got a quick score with an unassisted shorthanded goal from
Allyson Reilly just four minutes into the game. That would be the only goal scored in the 1
st period.
In the 2
nd period, the Lions would strike with a goal late in the period to tie the game at 1-1 heading into the 3
rd. The LumberJills would get a quick score just :25 into the 3
rd on an unassisted goal from
Ashley Hammes to go up 2-1. Northland would keep the pressure on and score just over a minute later on a goal by
Destiny Muir with an assist from
Ally Covert. Finlandia would get another goal in the period to push the score to 3-2. Northland was able to create another scoring opportunity and get the insurance with a goal from Covart assisted by
Kylie Fahmer and
Vivienne Kallio. The LumberJills would hold the Lions and get their first home win with a score of 4-2.
Chloe Marshall got her 1
st collegiate win in goal with 24 saves on the night.
"We came out a little flat at first, but we responded well when we needed to. Our captains played a huge role in setting the tone. I think we could've played better defensively, but it was nice to see us create some great offensive chances." Commented Head coach

Chloe Marshall to get her first win. She's played some incredible games and it's nice for her to finally get rewarded."
The LumberJills will continue their home stand this weekend when they host Post University. Post is another new program this year. Friday's game will be at 3:00pm and Saturday the puck drops at 2:00pm.
