1/24/2017 10:42:00 PM

The LumberJill hockey team hosted the Finlandia University Lions tonight at the Bay Area Civic Center.  Northland was looking for the program's first ever home win, and tonight they got it.  A strong 3rd period helped push them past Finlandia for a 4-2 win.
Northland came out and got a quick score with an unassisted shorthanded goal from Allyson Reilly just four minutes into the game.  That would be the only goal scored in the 1st period.

In the 2nd period, the Lions would strike with a goal late in the period to tie the game at 1-1 heading into the 3rd.  The LumberJills would get a quick score just :25 into the 3rd on an unassisted goal from Ashley Hammes to go up 2-1.  Northland would keep the pressure on and score just over a minute later on a goal by Destiny Muir with an assist from Ally Covert.  Finlandia would get another goal in the period to push the score to 3-2.  Northland was able to create another scoring opportunity and get the insurance with a goal from Covart assisted by Kylie Fahmer and Vivienne Kallio.  The LumberJills would hold the Lions and get their first home win with a score of 4-2. Chloe Marshall got her 1st collegiate win in goal with 24 saves on the night.

"We came out a little flat at first, but we responded well when we needed to. Our captains played a huge role in setting the tone. I think we could've played better defensively, but it was nice to see us create some great offensive chances." Commented Head coach Kelly Rider

Rider continued, "I was happy for Chloe Marshall to get her first win. She's played some incredible games and it's nice for her to finally get rewarded."

The LumberJills will continue their home stand this weekend when they host Post University.  Post is another new program this year.  Friday's game will be at 3:00pm and Saturday the puck drops at 2:00pm.
