The Northland College LumberJills traveled to Bethel for a pair of games this weekend. Bethel currently sits in third place in the MIAC with Hamline and the Jills were looking to bounce back from a loss at UW-Stevens Point last weekend.
The Jills came out strong in the first period and put forth a full team effort. The Jills had the first powerplay of the game and put on 4 quality shots on Bethel's net minder, but unfortunately couldn't find the back of the net. Bethel would then capitalize on a turnover at 12:54 to go up 1-0, before adding one more goal just before the end of the period at 18:26.
The Jills continued to play hard and limit Bethel's scoring opportunities, but Bethel managed to score two goals before the end of the period to bring the score 4-0 after two.
In the third period the Jills still refused to let up and held Bethel to just one goal at the 8:48 mark to bring the final score to 5-0.
Chloe Marshall came up with some big saves especially in the second and third periods, stopping 40 shots on the night.
Head Coach,
Kelly Rider, commented after the game, "We were really proud of our team tonight. We had buy in and contributions from everyone on our team and we played relentless." Rider also stated, "Bethel is one of the most deep teams we've played this year and to see our continuous focused effort was exciting and I hope gave everyone a glimpse into the future of Jills hockey. "
The same two teams face off again tomorrow at the National Sports Center at 3pm. The Jills then return home for their home opener on December 13th to close out the first semester.
