On Friday the Jills had a rough start in the first period, but battled back in the second and third periods. They successfully killed off three penalties in the game and
Maggie Cusey played great in net making 37 saves, but Northland lost game one to Augsburg 5-0.
Head Coach,
Kelly Rider, said, "The game got progressively better as it went on and a few players, in particular,
Kylie Fahmer and
Maggie Cusey, really started to step up and we hope it helps lead us into a good start for tomorrow."
On Saturday LumberJills faced off against Augsburg College for the second game of the two game series.
The Jills bounced back off a hard loss on Friday and came out flying in the first period. It wasn't until 3:30 left in the first when the Auggies netted their first goal off a turnover. Augsburg would add one more and the Jills headed to the locker room down just 2-0 and holding Augsburg to just nine shots.
Augsburg then added another goal at 4:43 in the second, but the Northland battled hard throughout the period which ended with a great penalty kill from
Kylie Fahmer,
Amanda Abounader, and
Ally Covert. With just under four minutes to play in the third Augsburg added one final goal to make the score to 4-0. The LumberJills kept pushing through, but despite ending on a power play but they just couldn't find the back of the net.
Head Coach,
Kelly Rider, commented that, "It was great to see how focused and hard we played in the first period. It was a strongest first period of the year and we were able to carry that momentum the rest of the game. The team should be proud of their overall effort."
The Jills continue their long road schedule with a game at Finlandia on Wednesday night. It will be the first time the LumberJills will face off against an NCHA opponent this season before becoming a full NCHA member in 2017-2018.
