ASHLAND, Wis. - Northland College (17-23, 13-8 UMAC) finished the regular season falling to Carleton 8-3 on Senior Day.
The five Northland seniors hit in the first five spots of the batting order in their final home game at LumberJack Field.
Carleton opened the scoring in the first inning scoring three unearned runs. Northland answered when senior shortstop
Matt Lennon drew a lead off walk and senior designated hitter Dan Kollauf singled through the right side. Senior utility
Logan Schuman then found a hole past the first baseman for an RBI single to bring the score to 3-1.
Northland was able to even the score in the bottom of the second with a two out rally. Freshman third baseman
Alex Elliott found a hole through the left side with one out with senior
Jacob Hodgdon reaching two batters later via a hit by pitch. Lennon then put a ball up against the left field fence for the two out two RBI double to bring the score even at 3-3.
From there the LumberJack bats went quiet as Carleton held the offense hitless the remainder of the game and only allowed four hitters to reach. The Knights would score three runs in the third and a pair of runs in the fifth to put the final at 8-3.
Senior pitcher
Kyle Strom played second base in his final game at LumberJack Field, while Schuman, Lennon and Kollauf all recorded hits. Hodgdon managed to reach base twice and score a run.
Northland now looks ahead to the UMAC Tournament where they will face Northwestern at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 7. The LumberJacks will then play at 4 p.m. or 7 p.m. that same day depending on the result of the first game.
