Following a tough 4-3 loss on Friday on a steal of home by Crown sophomore outfielder Hunter Foss, the Jacks rebounded Saturday in the first game of the UMAC doubleheader behind the strong pitching performance of Senior
Kyle Strom, Crown Point, Ind. Strom was able to shut down the Storm offense and scattered 6 hits and struck out 4 over his 8 innings of work. The Jacks offense, which produced 13 runs, was led by Junior Outfielder Mitch Howard, Black Earth, Wis., and Senior
Jacob Hodgdon, Outfielder (Winnebago, Ill.) who collected 6 and 4 RBI's respectively. Other Jacks adding to the offense were senior first baseman Dan Kollauf, Ashland, Wis., who collected two RBI and Freshman Alex Elliot (Middleton, Wis.) added an RBI to round out the offensive attack.
In game two of the Saturday double header the Jacks and Storm battled in a game that came down to who made the fewest mistakes in the field and the Jacks fell on the short end of a 9-6 Crown victory.
Head Coach
Ernie May commented "this game was going to go to who played clean and who didn't leave a lot of guys on base and we did a poor job committing 4 errors and leaving 8 runners on base" May also added "the crazy thing about baseball is that we were still in the game even after all those things not going our way."
Three LumberJack Freshman Pitchers,
Dennis Morales (Holiday, Fla.),
Dylan Porter (Rio Ranch, NM.), and
Alan Weidenhammer (Baker, Fla.) combined to allow 7 earned runs and also walked 4 batters and committed 2 wild pitches and hit a batter as well. "Hopefully this experience will be one we can grow from as a staff and team and if we clean things up a bit we can put ourselves in a position to win. I have all the confidence that all our players will be ready to accept the challenge that lies ahead as we enter the last 4 weeks of the season" stated May.
The Jacks are now 4-3 in UMAC play and 8-15 overall and currently are in 4
th place.
