FORT MYERS, Fla. - Northland baseball has experienced the ebbs and flows of spring training at the Gene Cusic Classic and came up short of a win against Illinois College on Saturday.  The Jacks struggled on day 6 of competition while the Blueboys came in strong for their first game of the season.  Just a day after a win for the Jacks, the boys were unable to keep their streak in force.

The early and late stages of the ballgame harmed the Jacks defense.  Senior Logan Schuman (Wild Rose, Wis./Wild Rose HS) started on the mound for the Jacks and faced an energetic lineup.  Schuman would be replaced by Jacob Smith (Oconomowoc, Wis./Oconomowoc HS) in the third inning, who was able to keep the Blueboys quiet through several innings until the Blueboys made another offensive push.  Trevor Rosczewski (Minocqua, Wis./Lakeland Union HS) made the final appearance on the mound for the Jacks.  D.J. Davis earned the win for the Blueboys, final score of the ballgame was 16-2.

Daniel Kollauf (Ashland, Wis./Ashland HS) tallied another RBI for the season bringing home Jakob Freele (Smartville, CA/Nevada Union HS).  Kollauf has a team high 7 RBIs, averaging just under 1 RBI per game.  Freele earned his 5th run for the 2015 season and the duo continue to be a threat.

The Jacks close out spring training on Sunday against Rockford University.  The ballgame is set for 3:00 p.m. (EST).
