AUBURNDALE, Fla. - In a doubleheader against Clark University, Northland came up victorious 9-7 and 15-11 in each 7-inning matchup.
Senior
Kyle Strom (Crown Point, Ind./Merrillville HS) threw a complete game in game 1 and held off the Cougars for his first win of the season. Strom started out strong on the mound, only allowing 1 run in 5 innings. The Jacks offense also performed steadily throughout the game with 7 players reaching home plate.
Daniel Kollauf (Ashland, Wis./Ashland HS) recorded 3 RBIs and
Mitchell Howard (Black Earth, Wis./Wisconsin Heights HS) had a game-high 3 runs for the Jacks.
The Jacks defense held strong even through a Cougars push in the 6th inning. The Cougars attempt to close the gap was shut down by Strom and his defense and the Jacks finished the game with a quick 7th inning.
In game 2 of the series, 3 different Jacks were featured on the mound. It was the offensive performance by senior
Matt Lennon (Reedsburg, Wis./Reedsburg Area HS), however, that pushed the Jacks towards victory. Lennon had 4 at bats, which he was able to convert into hits each time and recorded 6 RBIs and reached home plate 1 time.
The Jacks continued the momentum from the first game and had a big 2nd inning which put the Cougars behind early. 8 different Jacks scored in the 2nd inning to advance Northland's lead. A 6th inning revival from the Cougars forced the Jacks to stay on top of their defense and finish strong for the win.
The Jacks go 3-3 in overall record in spring training.
