ST. PAUL, Minn. - Northland College continued their series against University of Northwestern (Minn.) today and swept the weekend's games. The 6-5 and 10-2 wins now put the Jacks at 3-0 in conference play.
Dylan Porter (Rio Rancho, NM./V. Sue Cleveland HS) earned his first Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) career win on the mound for the Jacks.
In game 1 The Eagles opened up the scoring in the bottom of the 3rd inning sending 4 players home. The Jacks responded in typical fashion, however, and took the lead in the top of the 4th. Dan Kollauf (Ashland, Wis./Ashland HS) reached home plate to start the scoring on a
Logan Schuman (Wild Rose, Wis./Wild Rose HS) single.
Alex Elliott (Middleton, Wis./Middleton HS), Schuman,
Jakob Freele (Smartville, Cal./Nevada Union HS) and
Alex Loberger (Maribel, Wis./Denmark HS) all tacked on runs in the inning to go ahead by 1 run. The Eagles sent a player home in the 5th inning and tied up the game at 5. The win would be determined in the 9th inning when Freele earned his second run of the game and closed out the scoring for a 6-5 win.
The Jacks sealed the sweep in game 2 and it started out with a
Jacob Hodgdon (Winnebago, Ill./Winnebago HS) steal to home plate in the 4th inning. The Jacks continued with their ruthless batting throughout the game and a team effort to send players home would be the deciding factor to close out the series with a 10-2 victory. Schuman threw a complete game for the win in game 2.
The Jacks will travel to St. Scholastica on Tuesday, March 31st to continue UMAC competition. Both the Jacks and the Saints began the conference season with a 3-0 record.
