ST. PAUL, Minn. - Northland College traveled to Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) competitor Northwestern today to begin conference games. The Jacks were led by senior pitcher
Kyle Strom (Crown Point, Ind./Merrilville HS) who threw a complete game on the mound. Strom allowed 6 hits with 1 earned run and led the Jacks to a 2-1 victory.
Two Eagles pitchers attempted to outperform Strom, but the veteran proved his experience and kept a calm stature throughout the ballgame. The Jacks defense fielded well throughout the game allowing no errors.
The score remained tied at 0 through 5 full innings and Northwestern gained the lead on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 6th to put them ahead 1-0. The Jacks responded with urgency in the top of the 7th scoring 2 runs.
Logan Schuman (Wild Rose, Wis./Wild Rose HS) reached via single and advanced to second on the next play when
Alex Loberger (Maribel, Wis./Denmark HS) was hit by pitch. Schuman eventually came around to score making the game even at 1.
Matt Lennon (Reedsburg, Wis./Reedsburg HS) hit an RBI single scoring Loberger and the Jacks picked up the 2-1 victory.
The Jacks continue the series with a doubleheader tomorrow against the Eagles. First pitch is 12:00 p.m.
