SHEBOYGAN, Wis. - Northland College traveled to Lakeland College for a doubleheader on Sunday in what happened to be a battle of pitchers. In a 1-0 and 2-0 loss, the Jacks pitching staff kept the team in the game but the offense was unable to send runs home.
Kyle Strom (Crown Point, Ind./Merrillville HS) started out on the mound in game 1, allowing only one hit in the first inning. The Muskies sent a runner home in that inning on a stolen base and the score would remain 1-0 through the game. Luke Mandich was stingy with his pitching as well, allowing only 3 hits by the Jacks.
Mitchell Howard (Black Earth, Wis./Wisconsin Heights HS) got on base with a single in the first first inning,
Jacob Hodgdon (Winnebago, Ill./Winnebago HS) got on base in the 4th and
Matt Lennon (Reedsburg, Wis./Reedsburg Area HS) got on base in the 5th but the Jacks were unable to send them around the bases to reach home.
Game 2 featured
Logan Schuman (Wild Rose, Wis./Wild Rose HS) on the mound and he stayed strong through 6 innings. The Jacks improved their at bats in game 2 but were still unable to send anyone home. The 6th inning separated the scoreline as the Muskies got their only two runs of the game.
Matt Alberino (Medford, Mass./Arlington Catholic) had 3 at bats and got on base each appearance.
The Jacks will travel to Menomonie, Wis. on Tuesday to play against UW-Stout for a 2:00 p.m. ballgame.
