FT. MYERS, Fla. - Northland College met tough competition today in the second game of spring training against the Ohio Northern Polar Bears. The Jacks fell to 0-2 in the 17-3 loss.
Freshman
Dylan Porter (Rio Rancho, N.M./V. Sue Cleveland HS) made his first career start on the mound for the Jacks. The Polar Bears took an early jump and hit the ball well against the newcomer. Veteran Jack LaMarca had an historical game for Ohio Northern, which marked a difficult set-back for the Jacks defense.
Senior
Daniel Kollauf (Ashland, Wis./Ashland HS) and freshman
Alex Elliott (Middleton, Wis./Middleton HS) took advantage of a wild pitch and an error in the fifth inning to record the Jacks first scoring plays of the game. Narrowing the scoreboard and tallying a third run in the eighth inning,
Mitchell Howard (Black Earth, Wis./Wisconsin Heights HS) singled on his last at bat then scored off of a Kollauf double.
Dennis Morales (Holiday, Fla./Anclote HS) and
Alan Weidenhammer (Crestview, Fla./Baker HS) also shared time on the mound.
The Jacks will meet John Carroll University at 11:00 a.m. (EST) on Tuesday, March 3rd.
